Gassnova SF (Gassnova) was set up the Norwegian government in 2007 to manage the government's interest in, and support the development of, carbon capture and storage technologies. It is overseeing the construction and operation of CCS facilities and infrastructure at Naturkraft's gas-fired power plant at Kårstø and Statoil and Dong Energy's gas-fired power plant at Mongstad.
Its main aim is to promote climate friendly gas power technology with CCS, and help to reduce the costs involved in its deployment, through innovation, technology development and demonstration up to and beyond commercial-scale use.
Gassnova contributes to Norway's CLIMIT programme of R&D, and is involved in the world-leading CO2 capture test facility, Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM), a joint initiative between the Norwegian state, Statoil, Shell and Sasol. The agency also provides advice on all aspects of CCS to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, and seeks to promote cooperation between industry and researchers.
