Brief description:

The state government of Victoria has invested more than A$430 million in its Energy Technology Innovation Strategy (ETIS), set up in 2010 to support the development of low emission technologies as part of Victoria’s future energy mix.

Victoria, which accounts for 22% of Australia's GHG emissions, wants to maximise the use of its plentiful brown coal resources for electricity generation but must also reduce the environmental impact. The scheme provides funding for R&D and demonstration projects, through two separate grant programmes, each with up to a maximum of $5 million per project. In partnership with industry, ETIS aims to fast-track a variety of energy technologies to the point of being available for commercial-scale deployment. It is focusing on technologies best able to deliver cleaner, cost-competitive energy supplies for the state. These include "clean coal" technologies alongside renewables, energy efficiency and energy storage.
