Brief description:

Brown Coal Innovation Australia (BCIA) was set up in 2009 with $16 million funding from the state to continue the success of Energy Technology Innovation Strategy (ETIS) in funding research and development into new and adapted low-emissions technology suitable for Victoria’s brown coal reserves. It is an independent company with a remit to co-invest in projects with industry and research agencies. It also has the role of co-ordinating all brown coal research and development across the country, in partnership with the National Low Emissions Coal Initiative (NLECI). The Clean Coal Victoria offices were recently established in Latrobe Valley, the focus for the state's power plants.

COAL21, which developed from the  currently has funding available under its 2010 funding round for new low-emissions coal technology research.
