Shanxi International Energy Oxyfuel Project
Brief description:
Facts:
Shanxi International Energy Group's (SIEG) carbon capture and utilisation project includes the construction of a new 350MW super-critical coal-fired power plant at Taiyuan, Shanxi province.
The Oxyfuel Electrical Generation Demonstration Project aims to capture more than 2 million tonnes per annum of CO2 for other applications or sequestration.
Air Products signed a deal with SIEG in 2010 to perform a feasibility study and reference plant design on its proprietary oxyfuel CO2 purification technology for use at the plant. The technology is designed to remove up to 95% of corrosive elements from the oxyfuel combustion flue gas, resulting in purified CO2 for use or storage.
The US Department of Energy and China National Energy Administration have included this project in the US-China Fossil Energy Protocol (Annex II: Clean Fuels,), aimed at promoting scientific and technological cooperation between the countries.
