Saudi Arabia
Brief description:
Saudi Arabia is the world's largest exporter of oil and ranks 14th among nations based on 2008 fossil-fuel CO2 emissions. Previously most of the emissions came from gas flaring, but today the majority of the emissions are from consumption of petroleum products. There is on regulatory framework in place yet, but King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energies (K.A.CARE) was established in 2010 with an aim of building a sustainable future for Saudi Arabia by building a substantial alternative energy capacity fully supported by local industries. Saudi Arabia, Norway, the Netherlands and the UK have established the 4-Kingdom Initiative. This initiative's goal is to look at how one can make CCS commercial and economically viable, and to share knowledge and technology.Emissions
