Denbury Resources is planning to retrofit a pre-combustion CO2 capture plant at its natural gas processing plant currently under construction at Riley Ridge in the US state of Wyoming.

The plant will be designed to capture 2.5 million tonnes per annum of CO2, which would then be transported by pipeline for use in Denbury's enhanced oil recovery operations in Wyoming and Montana. The project may be fully operational by 2015. The company plans to reinject CO2 captured from the gas plant into the Riley Ridge producing field until the capture facility and pipeline are built.

Preliminary engineering and design work for the CO2 capture facility has begun, and phase one costs are expected to be around $70 million for facilities, drilling one producer well and one injector well, building flow lines, and conducting engineering studies on CO2 capture and separation.

Gas produced by Denbury's Riley Ridge field contains about 65% CO2. The company currently operates 420 miles of underground pipelines which carry CO2 to its existing EOR operations.
