ULCOS
Brief description:
Ultra–Low Carbon dioxide(CO2) Steelmaking, or ULCOS, is a consortium of 48 European companies and organisations from 15 European countries. It was formed to oversee a research and development initiative that would enable significant CO2 emissions reductions from steel production. The consortium is planning to retrofit a CO2 capture pilot at ArcelorMittal's Florange steelworks in northern France to test the viability of the technology for the rest of the industry. The ULCOS partners include major EU steel companies, energy and engineering partners and research institutes. Its venture is supported by the European Commission.
