Stanwell Corp

Brief description:

Stanwell Corporation, formed in 1997, is owned by Australia’s Queensland Government and is the state's largest power generators. It operates a number of coal-fired, gas, wind and hydroelectric power generation facilities which have a combined generating capacity of more than 4200MW. The company also operates Meandu Mine - transferred from Tarong Energy - which was purchased to secure feedstock for Tarong and Tarong North power stations. It employs around 1000 staff.

Tarong Energy, which was also owned by the Queensland Government. was taken over by Stanwell Corporation after a cost-saving restructuring in 2011.
