It is based in Houston, but with other major offices across the US and Canada, and employs around 7300 staff. Spectra operates 19,100 miles of transmission pipeline and has more than 305 billion cubic feet of storage capacity in the US and Canada, which are managed through its wholly owned subsidiaries. It is also engaged in natural gas gathering and processing, natural gas liquids and local distribution operations. The company has a 50 per cent stake in DCP Midstream, the largest NGL producer and one of the largest natural gas gatherers and processors in the US. Spectra’s western Canada operations have proven experience in small-scale CCS, and several of its facilities are equipped with technology to separate, inject and permanently store CO2 underground. Since 2007, these facilities have captured and stored more than 800,000 tonnes of CO2.
