State-owned oil, gas and energy giant Petrobras is the biggest company in Brazil and the eight largest in the world in terms of market value. Its activities include exploration and production, natural gas, biofuels, electricity, transportation and petrochemicals. It operates 100 production platforms and 16 refineries. Proven oil reserves of around 14 billion barrels are expected to double in the years ahead and, with the discovery of the massive pre-salt region, Brazil may become the world's fourth biggest oil producer by 2030.
