Brief description:

The French Institute of Petroleum - IFP Energies Nouvelles - is a French public-sector research organisation founded in 1944. Its stated mission is to develop, through industrial innovation and training, clean and economically viable technologies in the fields of energy, transport and the environment. It aims to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and expertise between research agencies and industry. The development of CO2 capture, transport and geological storage processes is one of five core areas of work.

With offices in Paris, Lyon and Pau, it receives funding from the state as well as from the French private sector and international partners. Its staff of around 1,700 are a unique body of specialists providing a network of expertise as well as access to high-quality facilities and testing resources. The IFP School offers graduate training programmes for engineers, designed to match industry needs. The organisation itself has more than 40,000 technology patents filed in France and throughout the world.
