Brief description:

Enbridge builds and operates pipeline infrastructure and distributes oil and gas across North America. Founded in 1949 as a pipeline company, it now employs around 6000 staff in Canada and the US. It played a key part in the development of western Canadian oil production. Nowadays, it transports 2 million barrels of oil and ships billions of cubic feet of natural gas every day. Subsidiary, Enbridge Gas Distribution, delivers around 400 billion cubic feet of natural gas each year.The company has been investing in research into "clean energy" technologies, such as carbon capture and storage, and wind and solar farms. It is leading the Alberta Saline Aquifer Project consortium of 38 industry players, and is one of five participants in Saskatchewan's Aquistore project.
