Brief description:

Chevron, one of the world's six supermajor" oil companies,  is a leading integrated energy company with operations worldwide. It is engaged in exploration, production and transportation of oil and natural gas, as well producing fuels, lubricants and other petrochemical products. It also generates power and produces geothermal energy and is engaged in biofuels research.

The company was founded in 1879 and became Chevron when it acquired Gulf Oil Corporation in 1984, which nearly doubled its proven oil and natural gas reserves. It merged with Texaco in 2001 and acquired Unocal Corporation in 2005.

It is now focusing on technologies that unlock remaining reserves as well as investing in the development of emerging energy technologies, such as nonfood-based biofuels, and expanding its renewable energy resources.
